About Najm Quran School and Our Approach to teaching

Our Aims and Values

Najm Quran School, based in Stebon Primary School in East London, supports children in building a strong foundation in Quran reading, memorisation and Islamic studies. The environment is safe, welcoming and focused on helping children grow in confidence while practising their faith/deen through Salah and Dua.

The programme runs across 35 weeks of the year and is designed to support steady progress in reading and memorising the Quran. Lessons are engaging and delivered through group learning, helping children build friendships, confidence and good character.

Our Students and Learning Approach

Najm Quran School welcomes children from Years 1 to 7. Weekday classes run three days per week, organised into two supportive cohorts. Cohort one from Monday to Wednesday and cohort two from Wednesday to Friday, allowing children to maintain a consistent routine while providing flexibility for families. Weekend classes are available on either Saturday or Sunday, giving further choice for busy schedules.

Learning takes place in a group classroom setting, where children practise Quran reading, memorisation and hifz together. The cohort system encourages shared practice, discussion and suppor. In return this helps children build confidence, friendships and a love for learning. Teaching is guided by the Quran and Sunnah, with a strong emphasis on positive behaviour, respect and personal growth.

Children are supported with structured resources and engaging lessons to help them progress steadily in both recitation and memorisation. All teachers are experienced, fully DBS checked and committed to providing a safe and trusted environment. Consistent, high-quality teaching ensures every child feels confident, motivated and supported throughout their learning journey.

What Children Learn

Najm Quran School offers a structured curriculum split into three key areas, helping children grow in knowledge, confidence and faith.

Through this approach, children strengthen their Quran recitation and develop memorisation skills. They grow in faith, character and confidence while learning together in a supportive, group-based environment.

qURAN READING

Children are guided to achieve fluency and proficiency in Quran reading. Lessons focus on correct recitation (Tajweed) and understanding, delivered through group learning. The school provides online resources, with each lesson recorded for revision and to catch up if a class is missed. The school’s aim is strong reading skills, not to make every child a Hafiz.

Quran Memorisation

Children memorise Juz Amma and once completed, progress to Juz Tabarak. Selected parts of the Quran, including Surah Mulk, Ayatul Kursi, and Surah Kahf, are also memorised. Lessons are designed to support steady progress in a group environment, building confidence and long-term retention.

Islamic Studies

Islamic studies lessons cover Tawheed and Imaan, the life and stories of the Prophets, and practical guidance on how to pray and perform dua. Lessons are interactive and engaging, helping children connect what they learn to their everyday life.
